The XII meeting of the Secretariat of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, chaired by Kairat Mami who is the head of the secretariat, was held in Astana on Wednesday.
Representatives of Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism and Hinduism participated in the meeting.
A protocol was signed at the meeting.
It was decided to take into consideration the suggestions of participants of the IV congress, as well as to further promote the goals and objectives of the congress.
It was also decided to expand cooperation between the secretariat and academic circles, educational institutions, and representatives of various organizations for the dissemination and interpretation of Kazakhstan's experience and its leader in the promotion of inter-religious dialogue, and strengthen the secretariat's activity in promoting interfaith dialogue and mutual cooperation to maintain peace and harmony in societies and states.
The theme of the fifth Congress of leaders of world and traditional religions was "Religion and sustainable development", and it was also decided to discuss proposals for the subject of breakout sessions of the fifth Congress and to approve them at the eighth meeting of the Secretariat in 2014.
Discussion of the exact date and place of the fifth Congress will be continued and approved at the eighth meeting of the secretariat.
It was decided to hold the eighth Meeting of the Congress Secretariat on September 17 and 18 in Astana.
It was also decided to inform the members of the Council of religious leaders and other prominent religious representatives about the adopted decisions.
