Kazakhstan, Astana, Oct. 18 / Trend D. Mukhntarov /
While delivering a speech at the XV Congress of the Nur Otan Party, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev ordered that taxes be levied on luxury goods.
"As I ordered, it is necessary to impose indirect taxes on luxury goods, expensive cars and all sorts of evil passions such as alcohol and cigarettes and so on," the president said.
The president also urged wealthy Kazakh people to direct their wealth towards the development of their country.
"Probably, we have the lowest corporate taxes in the world for companies and the lowest income tax for the rich and poor," he added. "So, we have created a class of wealthy citizens and this is correct. This was our goal. There should be more rich people. They must direct their wealth towards developing the country."
According to him, when a class of wealthy people is expanded, they can and must make a contribution.
"Such a situation is observed all over the world," he said. "But a millionaire pays a 10 per cent income tax here. So, I support my colleagues, the MPs."
