Kazakhstan, Netherlands discuss relevant issues of bilateral cooperation

Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans, in his first official visit to Kazakhstan discussed cooperation issues with Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrisov, the Kazakh foreign ministry reported on Feb. 3.

"The main topic of discussion was to prepare President Nazarbayev's forthcoming visit to The Hague to attend the Nuclear Security Summit in March 2014," according to the statement.

The two sides held the talks on relevant issues of Kazakh-Dutch bilateral cooperation. In particular, they discussed the opportunity of further development of political cooperation, trade- economic, and cultural-humanitarian partnership, according to report.

Idrisov also informed Timmermans of the basic provisions of the Kazakh president's message to the Kazakh people "Kazakhstan's Way - 2050: common goal, common interests, common future."

The sides stressed the potential of the two countries in resolving regional issues as part of such multilateral institutions as the U.N., OSCE and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Kazakhstan and the Netherlands are partners. The Netherlands is a leader in terms of investments in the Kazakh economy. The gross inflow of direct investments from the Netherlands to Kazakhstan amounted to $48.04 billion from 2005 to June 2013.

While speaking of intentions on further strengthening of strategic relations with the EU countries, Idrisov stressed that the European sector remains one of the main priorities of Kazakhstan's foreign policy.

Special attention was paid to the cooperation in the fields of agriculture, green energy, the establishment of research centers and innovation parks, as well as in the space industry.
