Kazakhstan and El Salvador established diplomatic relations, Kazakh Foreign Ministry reported on Feb. 4.
A joint communiqué on this issue was signed by Kazakhstan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Kairat Abdrakhmanov and his Salvadorian counterpart Enrique Garcia Gonzalez in New York on Jan. 30.
El Salvador is the most densely populated country in Central America, located on the shore of the Pacific Ocean.
Kazakhstan continues to diversify its foreign policy. One of its new geographical priorities is the region of Latin America and the Caribbean, the ministry said.
Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister paid his first visit in history to Chile, Argentine and Brazil in 2013. His counterparts had great interest for partnership with Kazakhstan, as well as for development of trade-economic and cultural cooperation with Kazakhstan within the U.N. on the issues of the global agenda.
The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and these three countries already amounted to $500 million, the ministry said.
Kazakhstan established diplomatic relations with nine countries of Latin America and the Caribbean in 2013. Overall, out of total of 33 countries in the region, Kazakhstan has diplomatic relations with 31 countries.
