Astana, Kazakhstan, Feb. 11
By Daniyar Mukhtarov - Trend:

The summit of the Caspian littoral countries will be held in Astrakhan this year, Iran's Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Kazakhstan Gorban Seyfi told Trend on Feb. 10.

"The summit of the presidents of Caspian littoral countries on the status of the Caspian Sea will be held in Astrakhan this year," he added. "A meeting will be held in Moscow in April at the level of foreign ministers."

He recalled that the talks on the status of the Caspian Sea are held at the level of deputy foreign ministers of the Caspian countries. The last meeting was held at the level of deputy ministers in Astana in late January.

"The efforts of all five countries are aimed at rapidly resolving the legal status of the Caspian Sea," he added. "The issue is of a complex technical and legal nature. Anyway, all issues on the Caspian Sea are at the stage of progress and shifts. However, it is difficult to give the exact date of completion of the negotiations, but I can confidently confirm that all negotiators are working thoroughly. It is important that all countries adhere to the position that the decision on determining the legal status of the Caspian Sea must be taken unanimously."
