By Daniyar Mukhtarov - Trend:

The Majlis (lower house) of Kazakh parliament approved the ratification of the agreement with Russia on creation of a unified regional air defense system on April 23.

"The purpose of creating the unified regional air defense system between Kazakhstan and Russia is to protect the air space and ensure the security of the two countries," Deputy Defense Minister of Kazakhstan, Okas Saparov said while presenting the draft law at the lower house's meeting.

Saparov added that the unified regional air defense system will be created and used on the basis of the following principles in peacetime: organization of combat duty and coordination of joint actions of the troops; preservation of direct subordination of troops to the united air defense system with national command; common approaches to the organization of their operational and combat training.

"During the wartime, the air defense system forces will be used on the basis of a single plan. The list of the military control bodies, command posts of formations and military units detached for the unified air defense system, will be approved in three months from the date of the agreement's entry into force," the deputy minister said.

Saparov went on to add that the unified regional air defense system will be headed by the commander to be appointed by the heads of the two states on the proposal of defense ministers.

The command will be deployed in the city of Almaty, according to the deputy minister.
