The revival of the Silk Road will contribute to peace in all the countries located along its route, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said at the opening of the 47th annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
"The construction of the Western Europe - Western China corridor is a part of the large Kazakhstan - New Silk Road project, which is aimed at a tenfold increase in the volume of transit transportation by 2050. This mega-project envisages the creation of a modern transport and logistics system, which allows to create effective channels for delivering any goods by any mode of transport to the destination through the territory of Kazakhstan," Kazakh president said.
Nazarbayev pointed out that the new railway with the length of 1,500km, stretching from the Chinese borders to the Caspian Sea, and further running through Turkmenistan, Iran and the Persian Gulf, is the real Silk Road that existed in ancient times.
"The revival of the Silk Road will contribute to the development of the political stability, and eventually, to the progress and peace in all the countries located along its route," the president added.
