"KazSat-3" to reduce imports of services significantly

Astana, Kazakhstan, May 6
By Daniyar Mukhtarov - Trend:

A number of major space projects included in the Industrialization Map are considered within the framework of the first strategic direction, Kazkosmos Chairman Talgat Musabayev said.

He said that spacecraft KazSat-2 is designed to provide television broadcasting and transmission of data in a satellite communication system KazSat in the territory of Kazakhstan, the countries of Central Asia and the central part of Russia, as well as to meet the needs of Kazakh satellite operators.

Musabaev noted that up to date, the national operator of a space communication system - JSC "Republican center of Space Communication" concluded contracts on leasing services satellite capacity of "KazSat-2" spacecraft with 11 organizations. Loading of the satellite is about 64 percent of the total transponder capacity.

At the same time, it was decided to create the third national geostationary communication and broadcasting satellite "KazSat-3" in order to further develop satellite communication system. Telecommunications spacecraft "KazSat-3" is designed to provide communications, television and high speed Internet access in the territory of Kazakhstan and neighboring states.

Musabaev noted that approximately in mid- May the satellite launched on April 28 should reach its orbital position of 58.5 degrees east longitude, and in September the spacecraft will be commissioned.

"Thus, with the launch of "KazSat-3"our country gained full closed complete communication system - a grouping of two satellites ("KazSat-2" and "KazSat-3") and two orbiting spacecraft control complex on the ground (GCC "Akkol" and BGCC "Kokterek"). Each of them can be as basic and reserve. They can be replaced, if there is a failure of one of them, which implies the acquisition of Kazakhstan autonomy and independence from external sources in such a strategically important area as communications and broadcasting, " Musabayev said.

Musabayev added that the use of spacecraft "KazSat-3" (under full load) will reduce imports of services by more than four billion tenge per year and increase tax revenues to the state budget

The KazSat-2 space system is designed under a contract between Russia's Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center and Kazakhstan's Republican Center of Space Communications, signed in October 2006.
.
"KazSat-2 "satellite was successfully launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome on July 16, 2011, "KazSat-2" was commissioned on November 25, 2011, and in December of the same year started its commercial commissioning. "KazSat-2" is at the orbital position 86.5 degrees east longitude. The coverage area of the satellite "KazSat-2" includes the entire territory of Kazakhstan, the countries of Central Asia, the territory of the central part of Russia.

The third satellite "KazSat-3" was successfully launched on April 28, 2014 at 10:25 Astana time from the launch complex of platform No 81 of "Baikonur" Cosmodrome. Lifetime of the spacecraft is 15 years.
