By Daniyar Mukhtarov - Trend:

There are no obstacles for transiting electricity generated by Kazakhstan's State District Power Plants (SDPP) to Belarus through Russia, said Russia's Deputy Energy Minister Yuri Sentiurin.

He made the remarks at a press conference on the occasion of opening of the World Energy Leaders' Summit on the theme 'Energy in transition: opportunities and emerging risks' on May 21.

"As for the interactions with Kazakhstan in the Eurasian Economic Union, there is a system of legal agreements and contracts that regulate the issues related to the joint production and transmission of electricity," Sentiurin said.

He stressed that there is a principle of adequacy which boils down to the fact that the electricity transmission within any state and its transit to a Eurasian Economic Union partner such as Belarus, is carried out with the same principles.

The ministry sees no problems in supply of the electricity generated at the Ekibastuz SDPP [northern Kazakhstan] to Belarus through Russia, Yuri Sentiurin said.

Regarding the sanctions declared against Russia, the deputy energy minister said that Russia doesn't plan any changes in the near future.

"I would like to stress that our strategic approaches towards the development of Russia's energy sector are set out in the updated version of the Energy Strategy of Russia until 2035. This is our doctrinal document, which is valid until 2020, but we have updated it. It reflects all of our strategic plans for the medium and long term," Russian deputy energy minister said.
