Current and former prisoners in Kazakhstan will be employed in the construction of EXPO in Astana, the press service of the Prosecutor of the capital reported.

A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the "Astana EXPO-2017" National Company, Astana correctional system, and the Republican State Entreprises Enbek of the Committee of the criminal executive system on June 4 at the initiative of the prosecutor's office in Astana at the central office of the national company.

"The main goal of the memorandum is to maximize the level of employment of current inmates in the prisons of Astana, as well as to employ former inmates in contracting companies, which will carry out the construction of the world fair facilities by means of ensuring orders for manufactured goods and the expansion of production volumes," the statement said.

The Prosecutor's office of the capital believes that cooperation NC "Astana EXPO-2017" with enterprises of the penitentiary system will be mutually beneficial, and most importantly will provide a significant portion of paid employment for convicts in the next 2-3 years, and will give an additional impetus to the development of production activities in the prisons of Astana.

"A working group will be established from the representatives of the parties within the framework of the memorandum that will solve all the technical issues for its implementation, namely conclusion of contracts for supplying goods, forming a list of former prisoners and their further employment. Prosecutor's office of the city, for its part, will monitor the results of implementation of the memorandum and orientate the sides to achieve its main goal," the report said.
