Vienna' police arrested Rakhat Aliyev, the former son-in-law of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev on June 5, the Austria Press Agency reported.

Rakhat Aliyev is suspected of murder and torture in Kazakhstan.

The warrant for his arrest was issued on May 19. Aliyev surrendered "voluntarily" since wanted to "cooperate" with police, his legal representative Manfred Ainedter told the media.

In 2008, Rakhat Aliyev, who earlier served as Kazakh ambassador to Austria, was sentenced to 40 years in prison in absentia for preparing to seize power and organizing a criminal group involved in kidnappings in Kazakhstan. Vienna Court refused to extradite Aliyev to Kazakhstan in June 2011.
