International Bureau of Exhibitions` flag handed to Kazakhstan

The Kazakh delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Yerlan Idrisov took part in the 155th session of the General Assembly of the International Exhibitions Bureau within the framework of his visit to Kazakhstan, the ministry reported.

The report noted that the official recognition of the international exhibition "Astana EXPO-2017" by the BIE members was held during the session, in connection with which the BIE president Ferdinand Nagy and the BIE Secretary General Vicente Loscertales handed the bureau`s flag to the Kazakh FM.

"Close cooperation with the secretariat makes a significant contribution to the preparations for the exhibition. Since becoming a part of this prestigious organization, we have reached a qualitatively new level of interaction not only with the BIE, but also with all its members," Idrisov said.

He expressed confidence that the "Astana EXPO-2017" exhibition will be a platform for both scientific and technological, and political and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

Idrisov read out a congratulatory message of the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev at the session, the report said.

"Undoubtedly, EXPO in Astana aims to make a significant contribution to the development and use of alternative energy sources, and it would provide an opportunity to present the best world technology, will help to promote energy-efficient programs. Together we will combine the efforts of the international community to find new solutions on the way to creating more ecological and safe environment," Kazakh president said.

As noted in the address of the head of state, the chosen theme "Future Energy" is highly relevant to all mankind.

"Kazakhstan is an active supporter of the introduction of "green" economy. In this regard, we have put forward Global Energy and Environment Strategy for Sustainable Development for XXI and the Green Bridge Partnership Programme, supported by the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in 2012. I am sure that the exhibition in Astana will become one of the brightest international events and give impetus to further development and use of alternative and renewable energy sources. We will make every effort to conduct EXPO at the highest level," the statement said.

On the same day, Kazakh Foreign Minister met with Deputy Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) William Danvers. The two sides discussed the preparation of OECD country program on the cooperation with Kazakhstan for 2015-2016.

Idrisov noted that the program will strengthen the interaction with the structural units of the OECD, to exchange expertise experience, improve the efficiency of government economic policy.

He also noted that Kazakhstan intends to use maximum experience of the developed OECD member-states, to use modern approaches, to use innovation, "know-how", the expertise potential of the organization to analyze the economic policy of Kazakhstan in the long term.
