Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev signed the law imposing a ban on sale of strong alcohol at night, the Kazakh presidency reported on June 18.

The Law on amendments and supplements to some legislative acts on state regulation of production and turnover of ethyl alcohol and alcoholic beverages bans the sale of strong alcohol out of restaurants, cafes and bars from 21:00 till 12:00 on all weekdays.

The law also expands the list of places where alcohol trade is prohibited. Alcohol sale is prohibited in the areas and buildings of children's institutions, education and health organizations, sport, recreation and sports-technical facilities, stadiums and petrol stations.

Moreover, the law increases the administrative responsibility for violation of the rules of alcoholic beverages retail sale and introduces an annual license fee for the right to sell alcoholic beverages.

In order to strengthen state control over the production and circulation of ethyl alcohol and alcohol products the law envisages introduction of a minimum percentage of producing capacity use and minimum volumes of production, as well as the introduction of modernized devices for alcohol volumes control.
