Kazakhstan and Russia discuss cooperation in nuclear energy development

By Elena Kosolapova - Trend: The Russian-Kazakh working group on deepening of cooperation in the field of atomic energy for peaceful purposes held a seventh meeting in Kazakh city of Astana, Russian State Corporation Rosatom reported on Aug. 6.

The Russian delegation was headed by Deputy Director General for International Affairs of Rosatom Nikolai Spassky; the Kazakh delegation was led by Chairman of the Board of Kazakh National Company Kazatomprom Vladimir Shkolnik.

The sides discussed the implementation of the measures envisaged by the package of documents signed by Rosatom and Kazatomprom in late May in Astana. In particular, the parties noted that significant progress was made in the developing of the draft Agreement on cooperation in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan between the governments of the two countries.

The meeting took place in a constructive and business like atmosphere. Both sides intend to take all necessary steps to implement the reached agreements.
