The State Fire Service of Kyrgyzstan plans to urgently inspect all places of pyrotechnics' storage, sale and use, head department of the State Fire Service under the Kyrgyz Emergency Ministry informed the news agency 24.kg Monday.
According to Vladimir Proscurin, head inspector of the service, the checkup will start immediately as the issue is coordinated with all competent departments and the Prosecutor General's Office.
All places and points of pyrotechnics and other New Year fireworks' storage, sale and usage are reportedly subject to the inspection.
The initiative followed the tragedy in Perm (Russia) on December 5 where a blaze broke out in the city's Lame Horse nightclub during an indoor firework display, killing at least 112 people. Over 90 injured have been transferred to hospitals in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Chelyabinsk. Day of mourning has been declared in Russia today due to the tragedy. The owner and manager of the club along with other suspects have been arrested for breaching fire safety rules.
As to Proscurin, at least 17 fires caused by violation of fire safety rules were registered during New Year celebrations of 2007-2008 in Kyrgyzstan, moreover one of them ended up tragically.
