Kyrgyzstan will probably increase the rental for the lease of territory by Russian military facilities, Defense Minister of Kyrgyzstan Abibilla Kudaiberdiev informed Thursday at a press conference, reported 24 kg news agency.
The Defense Minister says that, according to the new agreement, the Kyrgyz party is planning to increase the rental by two-three times. "The agreement for lease of four military facilities - the torpedo testing facility in Karakol town, the seismological station in Mailuu-Suu town, the communications center in Spartak village of Chui oblast and the air force base in Kant town - was signed in 1993. The Russians used to pay $4.5 million for them. Therefore, the issue of increasing of the rental requires solution," Abibilla Kudaiberdiev said.
"Kyrgyzstan did not receive cash from Russian militaries; Russia supplied us with military goods and trained our citizens in their military universities. As of today, Russia's debt for rent amounts to $6 million. At the meeting with Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov, we agreed that the Russian party would settle arrears in the nearest future, by supplying arms to us," he added.
"I want to particularly note that the agreement on the united Russian facility in the territory of Kyrgyzstan is only at the stage of elaboration. There are many nuances that should be stipulated. The document should further pass all necessary procedures and ratification in the Zhogorku Kenesh. Therefore, I cannot say anything concrete yet," Abibilla Kudaiberdiev said.
