U.S. State Department on Tuesday congratulated Kyrgyzstan on the official announcement of the results of the country's parliamentary elections which was held on Oct. 10, Xinhua reported.

"The voters of Kyrgyzstan demonstrated by their broad and orderly participation in this historic election that they committed to selecting their government through peaceful democratic means," department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters in a regular briefing.

Crowley said the United States looks forward to working with the Kyrgyz new parliament and with the government which will be formed in the coming weeks.

After riots and unrest in April, the Kyrgyz parliamentary elections are set to form the country's first parliamentary democracy. Preliminary results indicated that five parties have passed the 5-percent threshold to join the new parliament. The opposition Ata-Zhurt Party gained the largest number of votes with 8.47 percent.
