Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan agreed on transboundary movement

Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan agreed on transboundary movement of people, vehicles and goods. This measure contributes to two-way and regional trade, news agency "24.kg" reported.

Today, Kubanuchbek Mamaev, state secretary of Ministry of transport and communication of Kyrgyz Republic (KR), and Olimzhon Boboev, minister of transport and communication of Republic of Tajikistan (RT), signed an agreement in Dushanbe city. This is the first signed document as a part of the program of Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC), developed with the help of Asian Development Bank (ABR).

As officials of profile institutions of both countries mention there are a lot of interferences, preventing effective operation, such as: pure equipment of frontier posts, grate number of expensive documents in customs, immigration and quarantine cervices, as well as quotes for travelling permission, which limit business competition and slow down the trade. According to ministry, all these interferences increase travel time. At frontier customs station, along the CAREC - 5 corridor, which goes from China, via Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Pakistan, travelers spend six hours waiting for entrance to checkpoint, four hours for custom check, and two hours at frontier checkpoints.

"We hope other countries will join transboundary movement agreement," said Xiaoyu Zhao, Vice-president of Asian Development Bank.
