Kyrgyz gov't intends to increase pensions from Oct. 1

The Kyrgyz Government intends to increase pensions beginning on Oct. 1, KirTAG reports, and the Kyrgyz Prime Minister Almazbek Atambayev said in a television interview on Thursday.
"Regulation is prepared on three bills concerning the increase of pensions in the autumn. The bills are expected to be submitted to parliament in the next few days, and should approve them at the September meeting. The increase of pensions is planned starting on Oct. 1", Atambayev said.
He said the government is working to increase the average pension to the level of a living wage. "After the October increase, the average pension will amount to 3,800 soums, but a living wage in Kyrgyzstan is about 4,000, so we should not rest on our laurels", Atambayev said.
According to Atambayev's offer, the basic pension has been increased by 500 soums.
"This is the level of increment for which each retiree can hope. So some retirees' pensions will increase by 1,000 - 1,500 soums", he said.
The head of government recalled that pensions were increased in May this year. Increase in pensions is aimed at preventing lower living wages for the elderly in case prices are raised.
