The majority coalition of the Kyrgyz Parliament ceased to exist as of Wednesday due to withdrawal of the two party factions, the coalition head Kanat Isayev told reporters, RIA Novosti reported.
Kyrgyzstan is a parliamentary republic led by the Prime Minister appointed by a majority coalition in the parliament. Factions of the coalition also form the government. As a result of the 2010 elections five political parties are represented in Parliament, four of which are the Social Democratic Party, Ata-Meken, Republic and Ar-Namys, in December 2011 formed a broad coalition whilst Ata-Yurt went into opposition. In the case of the collapse of the coalition the Prime Minister has resigned and the government dissolved.
"I've received the decision of the Ar-Namys and Ata-Meken factions to withdraw from the majority coalition and in this regard, today (Wednesday) the coalition ceased to exist," Isayev said.
Earlier on Wednesday a majority of deputies representing the Socialist Party Ata-Meken in parliament, voted for the withdrawal of the party faction from the majority coalition.
The representatives of the Ata-Meken parliamentary faction accused Prime Minister Omurbek Babanov of abuse of power and involvement in corruption. They stated that the management of the Turkish company illegally transferred to Babanov an English thoroughbred stallion called Islander One, the cost of which allegedly reached $1.3 million as a bribe for giving a multimillion dollar contract for the construction of aeronautical tower at Manas international airport. In response the Government press service distributed a copy of the contract of sale, confirming the lawful acquisition by the Kyrgyz premier of the horse for $20,000.
On Tuesday, Ar-Namys group announced its withdrawal from the coalition.
Isayev said that after the collapse of the majority coalition the cabinet, including the prime minister, "should immediately resign."
According to the constitution of the country, within 15 days the president of the country must submit to a faction the mandate for the creation of a new coalition.
