Right now, there is very good basis for development of Iran-Kyrgyz relations, Iranian president Hassan Rouhani said in Bishkek during his meeting with Kyrgyz president Almazbek Atambayev, KirTAG reported.
Rouhani arrived in Kyrgyz capital earlier today with an official visit, to participate in the summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization today. This 2-day visit is his first foreign visit since taking office on August 4.
"I am very glad to see you in Kyrgyzstan, and would like to congratulate you with becoming Iran's new president," Atambayev said at the meeting. "We believe that your inauguration as Iran's president would bring a lot of good to Iranian people. Also, I am glad that your first foreign visit was to Kyrgyzstan. I would like to thank you for deciding to participate in the SCO summit."
Rouhani thanked his Kyrgyz counterpart for congratulations, and in return congratulated Atambayev with the Day of independence of Kyrgyzstan, which is celebrated on August 31.
"I am very glad that my first visit started with your beautiful country and city. Immediately after Kyrgyzstan gained independence, Iran was one of the first countries who recognized it. We've always advocated the development of relations with your country," Rouhani said.
It should be reminded that the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will be hosted in Kyrgyzstan on September 13.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation or SCO is a Eurasian political, economic and military organisation which was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Iran, along with India, Pakistan and Mongolia has the "observer" status in the organization.
