Kyrgyzstan, Russia talk over joining Customs Union

Kyrgyz prime minister Joomart Otorbayev and First Deputy of Russian Government Igor Shuvalov discussed the issue of Kyrgyzstan's joining the Customs Union (CU), Kabar news agency reported on May 1.

The meeting was held within the working visit of Otorbayev to Russia.
During the meeting the sides discussed the wide range of topics regarding bilateral cooperation between the two countries. A particular attention was paid to Kyrgyzstan's joining the Customs Union.

Otorbayev stressed that integration processes in Eurasian space create vast opportunities for the development of Customs Union member states' economic potential.
The financing of the events provided by the Roadmap on Kyrgyzstan's accession to the Customs Union was also discussed during the meeting.

Otorbayev stressed that Roadmap has been already completed, and currently Kyrgyz government is working to reduce risks and develop economic spheres within integration association.

Customs Union member states are the main trade partners of Kyrgyzstan. In 2013 specific gravity of CU member states in the total foreign trade turnover of Kyrgyzstan stood at 40.7 percent.

Russia ranks first in the Kyrgyzstan's trade turnover with 27.1 percent share, followed by Kazakhstan with 11.9 percent and Belarus with 1.6 percent.
