The Russian Defense Ministry jointly with other departments developed a draft agreement between Moscow and Dushanbe on Russian 201st military base in Tajikistan, Russian Foreign Ministry's website quoted Grigory Karasin, Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs/State Secretary on Friday as saying.

The draft agreement was introduced to Tajikistan in late November, 2011 and now Russia is waiting for the country's decision, Karasin said in an interview to Russian media.

The terms of signing this agreement will depend on the efficiency of Tajikistan's decision, he added.

The current agreement on the 201st base is effective till October, 2014.

The draft agreement is expected to prolong the staying of Russian base in Tajikistan for 4 years.
The Russian military base is situated near the Tajik capital, Dushanbe. The base is home to the 5,000-strong 201st motorized infantry division. It was established in 2005 to provide assistance to Tajikistan in protecting the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
