UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has expressed support for the efforts of the World Bank, aimed at providing assistance to Tajikistan in resolving the problems in the energy sector through using various alternative approaches, the UN News Centre said, CA-NEWS reported.
Ban Ki-moon has welcomed the decision of the Bank to continue an independent technical evaluation of the proposed Rogun HPP project.
"Ban Ki-moon said the results of this study will be a solid guidance in the decision-making process for the project. This, in turn, could lead to a constructive dialogue on water and energy between the neighboring countries in Central Asia," a statement of the UN chief said.
The Secretary-General took the opportunity, in order to encourage all the Central Asian states to actively involve in the search for a mutually acceptable agreement on water management in the region in accordance with the international law.
Ban Ki-moon called on all the interested parties to benefit from the support offered by his Special Representative for Central Asia Miroslav Jenca - Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia.
