Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 7 / Trend /
On December, 28, work on the construction of a new terminal was resumed at Dushanbe Airport, a report from AsiaPlus said with reference to the chief of Civil Aviation Department of the Tajik Transport Ministry, Firuz Eshonkulov.
"We recently received a construction schedule from the French company Vinci, Eshonkulov said. We will be updated on the construction process every ten days. Results will be published on the ministry's website after each of these periods."
Meanwhile, according to witnesses, at present construction work is in full swing with the use of a large number of vehicles.
A terminal construction agreement between the governments of Tajikistan and France was signed in April of 2009. In early 2010, construction of the new terminal was suspended by the former contractors of the project, the French companies Alpha Airport and Sofema Group.
Back then, deputy director of the airport Aziz Ibrahimov told reporters that "the reason for the suspension of the new terminal's construction was inconsistency between Tajik and French standards."
According to some reports, French companies asked for additional funding to resume construction.
In October last year, the lower house of Tajik parliament ratified financial protocol between the governments of Tajikistan and France for the construction of the new terminal dated May 2009 and an additional agreement to the above mentioned protocol as of June 29, 2012.
According to the additional agreement, the Tajik government's share in the construction of the new terminal at the capital airport will increase from 7 million to 19 million euros. France's share in the project totaled 20 million euros and will remain unchanged. The Vinci Company has been appointed the general contractor of the French party's construction.
Vinci S.A. is a French construction company. Until 2000, the company was named Société Générale d'Entreprises S.A. In 2000 the company name was changed to Vinci.
