Turkmenistan appoints representative to International Fund for Saving Aral Sea

Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov signed a decree to appoint Muhammad Akmammadov the board member of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), the official Turkmen source said.

The five Central Asia countries founded the IFAS in 1993 to finance joint projects and programs to save the Aral Sea and improve the ecological situation in the Aral Sea.

The Aral problem has affected the northern Turkmenistan. The Dashoguz region was subjected to the negative effects of environmental catastrophe and the region has acute problems associated with the provision of clean drinking water and fight with salinization of arable land.
