Presidents of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Russia Dmitriy Medvedev, who met in Zavidovo outside Moscow, paid special attention to multi-dimensional cooperation within "Caspian Five", as well as the situation in Afghanistan. "
The government press-service of Turkmenistan reported that the meeting "without ties" took place in the atmosphere of "understanding, the minimum of official formalities and maximum of friendly business communications."
The strategic area of cooperation between the two states is the fuel and energy sector. Turkmen gas supply to Russia was stopped after the crash on the main gas pipeline in April 2009. Negotiations are under way to reconsider the conditions of the gas contracts.
During the current negotiations, the sides touched upon the issues of promoting "the most important joint projects aimed at intensifying the partnership built based on trust, equality and the maximum mutual interests."
In addition to energy cooperation, discussions were held on cooperation in agriculture, transport and telecommunications, mechanical engineering. The presidents talked about the further expansion of cooperation in the field of culture, sports, education and training.
Furthermore, the sides discussed coordination of activities between Russia and Turkmenistan at the global and regional levels on issues such as combating international terrorism, drug trafficking, transnational organized crime.
Noting the productivity of regular dialogue at this level, the Turkmen leader invited his Russian colleague to make a reciprocal working visit to Turkmenistan in the near future. The invitation was accepted with gratitude.
