Representatives of the UN, the OSCE and the CIS will monitor presidential elections in Turkmenistan to be held on Feb.12, 2012, Turkmen president Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov said at a meeting of the cabinet of ministers dealing with summarizing 2011, the official Turkmen mass media reported.

The president said observers will arrive in Turkmenistan just prior to the elections and will be there until the elections are over.

"These elections are especially important because they will be held amidst continuing legislative and constitutional reforms, on alternative basis with the participation of a number of candidates," Berdymuhamedov added.

He said Turkmen citizen abroad will also be able to place their votes. Special polling stations for these citizens will be opened at the Turkmen embassies.

"Upcoming elections in Turkmenistan rivet great attention of the international community and organizations and our country should prove that it is open for wide international relations and follows the path of further democratization of the society," Berdymuhamedov said.

"We created all opportunities to ensure that observers will be able to monitor all election processes and also to attend all the places they desire," the president added.

He said Turkmenistan's task is to create conditions in order to ensure that people will take active part in upcoming presidential elections that elections will be held in an organized way, on a high level and in a festive atmosphere.
