Turkmenistan intends to strengthen cooperation with Afghanistan

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Jan.28 / Trend H.Hasanov /

Turkmenistan intends to further strengthen cooperation with Afghanistan, provide efficient assistance in restoration and development of its socio-economic infrastructure, local media outlets quote President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov as saying at the meeting of the cabinet of ministers on Saturday.

The articles comment on Turkmen-Afghan talks at high level held recently in Turkmenbashi during the working visit of Afghan president Hamid Karzai to Turkmenistan.

Mr Berdymuhamedov "stated their effectiveness, stressing traditionally friendly, good neighbourly nature of intergovernmental relations".

He said large projects initiated by the Turkmen side aim at assisting in restoration and development of socio-economic infrastructure of the neighboring country. These include project on construction of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, project on increase in volumes of Turkmen electricity's export to the neighboring country, development of transport communications, "implementation of which will contribute to welfare of fraternal Afghan people".
The TAPI project was launched in December 2010 in Ashgabat when important agreements were concluded following the high level summit.
The length of the TAPI may reach over 17,000 km. The design capacity is about 33 billion cubic metres of gas per year, while the cost is estimated at $7-8 billion.

The source of raw materials in addition to the Dovletabad field will come from the Galkynysh field, which is one of the world super giants.
