Turkmen, Chinese presidents to hold talks in Beijing

A meeting between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov and President of the People's Republic of China Hu Jintao is scheduled in Beijing on Wednesday, the Turkmen government said.

It is expected that during the talks the sides will discuss prospects for boosting trade, economic and cultural relations and exchange views on topical issues of world politics, today's global challenges, related to strengthening peace, stability and global security.

"The next meeting at the high-level is intended to be an important milestone in steadily developing bilateral relations and will allow make them more dynamic and efficient," the report says.

The Turkmen leader arrived in China on a working visit to participate as a guest of honor at the 12th meeting of the Council of Heads of States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

A government delegation of Turkmenistan on these days holds a series of meetings with Chinese counterparts. In particular, representatives of the Turkmen government and heads of ministries and departments have been received in the Foreign Ministry of China, China's leading banks - Bank of China and Bank of Kunlun, as well as in the central offices of Chinese companies such as CNPC, Huawei, Lenovo.

China has held a leading position among trade partners of Turkmenistan.

At present, 37 Chinese companies that deal with 66 investment projects worth about $4.5 billion and 2.3 billion yuan operate in Turkmenistan. Basically, these companies operate in oil and gas industry, supply high-tech telecommunications equipment and participate in implementation of infrastructure projects.
