Turkmenistan is interested in expanding trade turnover with the SCO countries, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov said at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), local media outlets reported.

Turkmenistan is interested in expanding trade turnover with the SCO countries, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov said at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), local media outlets reported.

"Turkmenistan is interested in expanding trade turnover with the SCO countries, diversification of export-import operations, attracting experience and technology to modernize its infrastructure, development of joint projects in agriculture, development of partnerships through business organizations," President Berdimuhammadov said in Beijing.

He said the combined potential allows building such relations in mutually beneficial and long-term basis.

President Berdimuhammadov believes that the cooperation with the SCO countries in the transport and communication sphere is important as well.

"At present, prospects of optimizing the transport network on North-South, East-West lines by using road, rail and sea communication that would connect the vast spaces from the Pacific Ocean to the Baltic, from the north of the European continent to the Indian Ocean," Berdimuhammadov said.

Cooperation with the SCO is an important component of Turkmenistan's foreign policy, "aimed at ensuring stable and balanced development of regional processes, active economic and trade interaction and create conditions for implementation of major international infrastructure projects".

Turkmenistan considers prospects for partnership with the SCO in the context of development of inter-regional relations, maximum use of available capacity of our countries for full and equal integration into the global economy.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a permanent intergovernmental international organization, establishment of which was announced in Shanghai (China), Republic of Kazakhstan, the People's Republic of China, the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on June 15, 2001.

The total area of the SCO member states is equal to about 30.189 million square km, which is three fifths of Eurasia's area, while the population hit 1.5 billion people, which is one fourth of the total population of the world.
