Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, June 20 / Trend, H. Hasanov /
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov yesterday left for Brazil to attend "Rio+20" United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, the Turkmen government said on Wednesday.
"Turkmen president's visit program is extremely rich. In addition to participating in the conference, it includes a series of important bilateral meetings," the report says.
A wide range of issues on such priorities of the international agenda as the development of new global political commitments in sustainable development has been submitted for consideration of the conference participants.
Another important point of the negotiations will be the development of the "green" economy principles: ecological modernization of production and development of alternative energy, distributive economic growth, control over consumption and institutionalization of "green" economy, as well as reform of public administration in the interests of global sustainable development.
As is expected, the Turkmen leader will put forward a proposal on the organization of the Caspian Environment Forum as a permanent platform for the consideration of environmental issues in the Caspian Basin and develop relevant proposals and recommendations. Also, the establishment of specialized structure - UN regional center to address climate change was discussed. The Turkmen side is ready to provide the necessary infrastructure in Ashgabat for its activity.
"These initiatives will be another striking evidence of the Turkmen side's willingness to deepen and enhance all-round constructive cooperation in the UN format, which meets the interests and welfare of humanity," the government statement says.
