Turkmenistan, in cooperation with the United Nations has a number of projects, including the "Institutional Strengthening for the Montreal Protocol" and "Technical assistance for the elimination of methyl bromide in the post-harvest sector," Turkmen Dovlet khabarlary (state news service of Turkmenistan).
The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer was signed 25 years ago. As of mid-2012 197 countries (among them since 1993 - Turkmenistan) support it.
The result of the implementation of measures under the Montreal Protocol, was to become a significant decline in global production of ozone-depleting substances (ODS).
Number of agencies, such as The United Nations Environment Programme or UNEP and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, UNIDO to help Turkmenistan to implement the project.
At this stage of the Montreal Protocol production and consumption of a hundred species of harmful chemicals, many of which contribute to global warming, such as hydrochlorofluorocarbons, was banned.
TDH notes that, in general, the global consumption of these compounds was reduced by more than 95%.
According to UNEP, in the performance of obligations under the Montreal Protocol, derived from the production and use of such amount substances, which is the equivalent of 25 billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions. This is more than expected cut in the first phase of the Kyoto Protocol.
The delegation of Turkmenistan in 2011, participated in the international conference on climate change in Durban (South Africa). The main outcome of Climate Forum was the decision to develop a new international agreement on the adoption by all countries of the world commitment to reduce emissions, which should enter into force no later than 2020.
