A meeting of the Intergovernmental Council on agricultural issues will be held in Ashkahabad on October 12, an official Turkmen source reported.

The event will be held by the CIS executive committee with the assistance of the Ministry of Agriculture and Turkmen MFA. An international scientific and practical conference on the development of food security in the CIS is going to be held prior to the meeting.

The first forum of the CIS's agricultural producers with participation of representatives of authoritative international organisations was convened in 2009 in the Turkmen capital. Prospects of cooperation in the field of innovation technologies and know how in production and the processing of agricultural production, supply of special equipment and the rational use of biological resources were the subjects of discussion.

Turkmenistan will host the forum due to its chairmanship in CIS in 2012.
