Turkmen, Turkish presidents discuss regional issues

Presidents of Turkmenistan and Turkey, Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov and Abdulla Gul discussed some aspects of international and regional policy of mutual interest over phone, the Turkmen government said on Tuesday.

The conversation took place at the initiative of the Turkish side.

"Discussing issues of regional cooperation, the sides reiterated the importance of a coordinated approach to addressing today's global challenges, including through their joint discussion within authoritative international organizations, in particular in the United Nations," the government said.

Stressing the importance attached by Turkmenistan to the development of relations of brotherhood, good neighborliness and mutual respect with the people of the region, President Berdimuhammadov said that "he would be happy to see his Turkish counterpart at the International holiday Novruz celebrations - ancient holiday which brings people together and call for the friendship and good will in the world".

According to the report, the presidents discussed the issues of interstate cooperation. The two sides reaffirmed the mutual desire of the parties to give a new impetus of development to it, stating the necessity of maximum use of existing profound potential.

It is reported that President Gul emphasized "the sincere interest of the Turkish business community in active participation in major new joint projects that meet interests of the people in the region and directly strengthen national economies of the two countries".

Turkish companies implement more than 1,270 investment projects in Turkmenistan. They include more than 1200 projects worth more than $15 billion and 26 projects worth over two billion euros, 26 projects worth over 56 billion manat and other projects.
