A package of intergovernmental agreements was signed in Ashgabat on Thursday following high level talks between Turkmenistan and Turkey, according to the Turkmen government.

Turkey's President Abdullah Gul, who is on an official visit to Turkmenistan (May 29-31), has held talks with the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The report states that the meeting culminated in the signing of a framework agreement on cooperation on the supply of natural gas from Turkmenistan to Turkey, a protocol on technical, scientific and economic cooperation in the agricultural sector and an agreement on cooperation in youth affairs and sports.

A cooperation programme for 2013-2014, a memorandum of understanding on the exchange of diplomats and a document of understanding on cooperation in the field of information technology were signed with regards to cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries.

Agreements on joint activities in the field of cultural heritage were concluded between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA) under the Prime Minister. Among them are the protocol on cooperation in the search for the burial of Sultan Alp Arslan and construction of his mausoleum and a Protocol on cooperation in restoration of the mausoleums of Sahabalar Hakam al-Ghifaari and Bureida Al-Aslami.

Among other signed agreements are a protocol on the exchange of letters on the approval of an agreement between Turkmenistan and Turkey on legal assistance in civil and criminal matters, a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the exchange of financial information relating to the laundering of proceeds from crime and financing of terrorism between the Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan and Agency for Financial Investigation (MASAK) under the Ministry of Finance of Turkey. Also included is a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan and the Council on the stock market of Turkey.

Following the talks, the presidents of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey issued a joint statement.
