Turkmen parliament to consider new draft laws

The Majlis (parliament) of Turkmenistan will hold its regular meeting of the fourth convocation on August 29, during which a number of legislative documents will be considered, the Turkmen government reported on Tuesday.

The term of office of parliament's members is five years. The main composition was elected in December 2008 and the next election in Majlis is planned for this year.

According to Turkmenistan's constitution, parliament adopts laws, makes changes and additions to the main law. It approves the state budget, solves issues relating to carrying out the nationwide referendums and appoints the election of the president, deputies of the Majlis and members of the representative bodies.

The parliament also considers issues about any appointment or release from a position of the Supreme Court Chairman, General Prosecutor, Interior Minister, Minister of Justice on the president's proposal, ratifies and denounces international agreements and addresses issues of changing of state borders and the administrative-territorial division of the country.
