President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discussed the issues of cooperation in the energy sphere with Iran's Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, the report of the Turkmen government said on Saturday.
"The Head of State and Iran's Oil Minister underscoring that cooperation in the energy sphere is the most demonstrative in strengthening of large-scale intergovernmental dialogue, supported the intensification of joint work in this sphere," the report said.
The Iranian side said that a number of large-scale projects initiated by Turkmenistan have great importance for realizing the potential of the oil and gas industry in the country and plays a major role in strengthening of the global energy security.
The Turkmen leader underscored that today the issues of equal, uninterrupted and secure access to energy sources and means of their delivery have acquired global scale.
"This requires moving this issue to the UN level in order to develop common principles, distinct rules governing the relationship between producers, transit countries and consumers," Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a meeting with the Iranian delegation.
Earlier Ashgabad announced that it would be reasonable to create an expert group under the auspices of the UN on development of international mechanism of stable energy supplies in the world.
