Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Sept. 24 / Trend H. Hasanov /

Turkmenistan jointly with the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is planning to hold an international conference on energy security in Ashgabat on October 17-18, the Turkmen government said today.

According to the report, 'Energy security and sustainable development - future of the OSCE' will be the main topic. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry will act as a co-organiser.

Turkmenistan joined OSCE on January 30, 1992. Several large international forums, including those on energy security have been recently held in Ashgabat.

Ashgabat considers it appropriate to intensify the energy dialogue within OSCE, to formulate the mechanisms for multilateral consultations on political, financial-economic, technological and environmental aspects of construction and operation of the multiple pipeline infrastructures.

The country has voiced several initiatives to ensure reliable and stable supply of energy resources to the world markets within the UN.

Turkmenistan ranks fourth in natural gas reserves in the world. The country is exporting this fuel to the markets of China, the CIS countries and Iran. The variants of laying the gas pipelines from Turkmenistan to the markets of South Asia and Europe are being examined.
