Karim Durdymyradov has been appointed chairman of the State Committee for Tourism of Turkmenistan, a statement from the Turkmen government said.
The corresponding decree was signed by the country's President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The tourism industry has a special place in Turkmenistan's strategic plans. For example, the Avaz resort being built on the Caspian Sea is the country's first free economic zone where working investors, firms and companies are granted tax and customs privileges. A number of international tenders were announced for the construction of sites and facilities here. According to the official data, the total cost of funds invested to date from the state treasury of Turkmenistan is more than $1.5 billion.
The Great Silk Road passes through Turkmenistan. The country is rich in folk culture and has various natural landscapes, unique archaeological sites including those on the list of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage such as Ancient Nisa, Merv and Kunyaurgench as well as Gonurdepe, the centre of the Margiana civilisation and the ancient Dekhistan.
The foothills of the Kopet Dagh, flora and fauna of the Karakum desert, the coast of the Amu Darya, Koytendag and sub-tropical areas of South-West Turkmenistan are a godsend for lovers of ecological tourism.
