An Iranian delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Representative for the Caspian Sea Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour, held several meetings with representatives of the Turkmen government in Ashgabat on Thursday, the Turkmen government reported on Thursday.

'A meeting with the Iranian delegation was held at the Foreign Ministry on December 26, 2013', the report said. 'Issues of cooperation were considered between the two countries in political, economic and cultural spheres during the political consultations between Turkmenistan and Iran'.

According to a report, concrete action on further cooperation between the Turkmen and Iranian foreign ministries was worked out following the negotiations.

The Iranian delegation was received at the State Enterprise for the Caspian Sea under the Turkmen president on December 26.

Turkmenistan and Iran border one another in the Caspian Sea and have a long land border. The countries implemented a number of large scale joint projects during their long relationship.

The two neighbouring countries have already implemented several projects including the Tejan-Sarakhs-Mashad railway connecting Central Asia and Europe which has become an important transit route, as well as the modern high voltage Balkanabat-Ali-Abad power line and the Dostluk Reservoir.

Tehran and Ashgabat have previously reported they are negotiating to increase Turkmen gas supplies to Iran.
