Iranian delegation headed by Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Oceania Ebrahim Rahimpour is on a visit in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan's capital, the Turkmen government said.

According to the information, the delegation held a meeting at the Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry to discuss a number of areas of bilateral relations.

"The main focus of the meeting was the issues of cooperation, which will be put on the agenda of the meeting of the joint Turkmen-Iranian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, which will be held January 20-21," the Turkmen government said.
Earlier Turkmenistan's TV reported that at a recent government meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov speaking about Turkmenistan's commitment to traditionally friendly, trusting and equal relations with its closest neighbours, including Iran, "stressed the role of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in the implementation of existing potential of partnership."
Turkmenistan and Iran border the Caspian Sea and have a long land border. During the years of long-term cooperation between the two countries a number of large-scale joint projects were implemented.
With this regard, the strategic project for commissioning Korpeje-Kurt-Kui gas pipeline in 1996, as well as commissioning of Dovletabat-Sarahs-Hangeran pipeline in recent years can be mentioned.
Tehran and Ashgabat earlier said that they are holding negotiations on increasing the supply of Turkmen gas to Iran.
