Turkmen-Hungarian political consultations were held in Budapest at the level of the two countries' deputy foreign ministers, a message from the Turkmen government said on Feb.17.

'Attention was paid to preparations for the upcoming visit of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Hungary in the first six months of 2014', a message from the Turkmen government said.

The parties also discussed the priority direction of joint development in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

During the meeting the parties also initialled an intergovernmental agreement on economic cooperation.

Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Hungary were established in May, 1992. Hungary became a member of the Council of Europe in 1991 and a full EU member in 2004.

Hungary is interested in receiving Turkmen gas under transnational projects such as Nabucco. This project also covers the territory of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania and Austria.

The Nabucco implementation schedule and its cost are periodically reviewed.

It was earlier reported that technological equipment and machinery, as well as medicines are included in the commodity structure of imports from Hungary to Turkmenistan. The export of petroleum products and petrochemicals, Turkmen textiles and other products is of interest.
