Turkmenistan and Tajikistan will discuss the prospects for bilateral cooperation during the two-day official visit of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Tajikistan, a message from Turkmen government said.

Berdimuhamedov's visit will start on May 5.

"During the upcoming negotiations in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, Berdimuhamedov and his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon will discuss the prospects and key areas of further bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries. During the discussions, the two parties will focus on the existing potential and priorities of the social and economic development of the two countries for the coming years," the government message said.

Bilateral documents will be signed after the meeting.

Another high-level meeting between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan is intended to be a new page of the centuries-old friendly relations between the neighboring countries, Turkmen Dovlet khabarlary state news agency said in its comment.

The two countries regard the project for construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan (TAT) railway as one of the most important joint projects.

The implementation of this project started in June 2013.
