Turkmenistan attaches great importance to deepening relations with the U.S., Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

The president made the remarks during his meeting with the U.S. ambassador to Turkmenistan, Robert Patterson who is completing his diplomatic mission in this country, a message from the Turkmen government said on May 22.

The president emphasized the role of the U.S. as a strategic partner in implementation of large-scaled plans on ensuring sustainable development of the country and the Central Asian region as a whole.

Patterson, for his part, stressed that the U.S. fully supports Turkmenistan's constructive and peaceful foreign policy as a neutral state.

During the meeting, the parties emphasized the significant role of the joint U.S.-Turkmenistan Business Council.

" Activation of contacts among the business circles contributes to the intensification of long-term trade and economic relations between the two countries, expansion of partnership with the U.S. producers and attracting investments," the government message said.

The Obama administration in the U.S. has taken a course of rapprochement with Turkmenistan. Ashgabat began to regularly hold exhibitions of U.S. companies coupled with high level business forums and talks.

Political consultations have gained a regular basis. Cooperation in the spheres such as the supply of agricultural machinery, modernization of Turkmenistan's civil aviation fleet and import of electricity equipment continues.

Large U.S companies such as Chevron, ExxonMobil, General Electric and Case have opened offices in Turkmenistan.

The White House has begun to actively support the regional gas pipeline projects from Turkmenistan such as TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India).
