Around one million tonnes of wheat have been harvested in Turkmenistan, a message from the country's government said on July 2.

The country's President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov demanded the relevant authorities to keep the mowing season under strict control and ensure the completion of the harvesting campaign at the optimum time without crop losses.

The country started harvesting wheat in early June. Around 1.6 million tonnes of grain are expected to be collected from some 860,000 hectare area. The country has created a state commission for an efficient harvesting of grain crops in 2014.

The harvesting campaign will in general include over 2,000 harvesters of such brands as Case, John Deere and others.

Turkmenistan collected 1.6 million tonnes of grain in 2013, or 400,000 tonnes more than in 2012.

Turkmenistan began exporting the food grain surplus abroad in 2010.
