Uzbekistan, Italy discuss prospects for economic cooperation

Promising directions of cooperation in political, trade and economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian spheres were discussed during a meeting of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry's leadership with Italian Ambassador Riccardo Manar on Thursday, the Foreign Ministry said.
Particular attention was paid to proposals on boosting bilateral contacts in the context of the Uzbek-Italian cooperation.

As it was previously reported, during a meeting of the Uzbek-Italian working group on trade, economic and industrial cooperation and export credits, held in October 2011 in Tashkent, the Italian business circles expressed their willingness to establish economic and industrial cooperation with Uzbekistan.

In particular, Italian entrepreneurs expressed interest in cooperation in energy sector of Uzbekistan, as well as in metallurgical industry, textile industry and tourism business.
The bilateral contractual basis in the economy now includes an agreement "On the Encouragement and Reciprocal Protection of Investments," Convention "On the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Evasion of Tax on Income and Capital," the agreement on international transportation and mutual customs assistance and other documents.

According to the Uzbek statistics, the Uzbek-Italian trade turnover amounted to $151.9 million in 2010, in January-August 2011 - $153.9 million.

Some 32 enterprises with the participation of Italian capital, including 28 joint ventures and 4 companies with hundred-per-cent Italian capital currently operate in Uzbekistan.
