Uzbekistan, Tashkent, Sept. 24 / Trend D. Azizov /

Uzbek President Islam Karimov has approved an international agreement package with Cyprus, a government representative told Trend on Monday.

The president has approved the intergovernmental agreements on cooperation in the fight against crime, an agreement on cooperation in the field of health and medical science, and an agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism.

The documents were signed during Cypriot Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou Markullic's visit to Uzbekistan in April.

The sides have confirmed mutual interest in further intensifying the Uzbek-Cypriot dialogue in various fields, including direct contacts between the law enforcement bodies and the medical institutions of the two countries within Erato Kozakou Markullic's visit.

One priority area of cooperation was tourism. Cyprus has gained considerable experience in attracting and serving foreign visitors.

Around 27 enterprises operate in Uzbekistan with the participation of Cypriot investors, including 12 companies with full Cypriot capital.

The representative offices of seven Cypriot companies have been accredited under the External Relations Ministry.
