Uzbek President Islam Karimov feels it is necessary for there to be more action on the part of the nation's women's organizations. This was stated in a message to participants of the National Women's Conference held on Friday in Tashkent.
"I am confident that through critically assessing ongoing work in all areas, you will make practical solutions here at this conference that will increase the influence and activity of women's organizations," the head of state said.
Today, life itself requires the furthered improvement of the effectiveness of women's organizations in addressing priority issues, such as the protection of motherhood and childhood, and the formation of a healthy and harmoniously developed generation, which is the cherished dream of all parents, Karimov said.
In his view, more attention should be paid to creating favorable conditions for women to grow their knowledge and skills, potential and talent and to providing women and girls with work, especially in rural areas as well as the development of family business, entrepreneurship and home-based work.
Islam Karimov said that at present, when the global or regional outlook becomes more complicated, conflict intensifies. Actively working with families and mahallas, as well as protecting young people from various harmful trends and influences are of significant importance.
"In this regard, teaching children, especially girls, to lead a healthy lifestyle and helping them master the latest knowledge and professions as well as find a decent place in life while combining national traditions and customs with time requirements are the most important objectives of the whole Women's movement," the statement said.
The Uzbek Women's Committee was founded in 1991 as a self-governing non-governmental non-profit organization that brings together 208 regional offices, including 14 regional and 194 municipal and district offices, about 42 thousand primary organizations.
The main objective of the committee is the full support and protection of the rights and legal interests of women, the assurance of the effectiveness of public women's organizations in securing improvements to the social, legal and socio-labor activity of women and the level of their legal, economic and socio-economic status.
The head of the Women's Committee is also a deputy prime minister, also many heads of regional, city and district committees and deputy heads of respective administrations are women.
