Uzbekistan accedes to CIS agreement to fight illegal migration

Uzbekistan, Tashkent, March 29 / Trend, D.Azizov /

Senate (upper house of the Uzbek parliament) passed a law on the accession to the agreement on cooperation of the CIS member states in the fight against illegal migration.

Senators supported the accession of Uzbekistan to the agreement with the proviso that the country will not make changes to the national legislation.

The relevant requirement is reflected in the fifth paragraph of the fourth article of the agreement ("harmonization of national legislation of the parties in the area of responsibility for illegal migrants and for all categories of persons who assist illegal immigration").

According to the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Policy Committee Sadiq Safayev, who presented the bill, "the adoption of this agreement by Uzbekistan is necessary within the multilateral cooperation with the CIS countries, including in the fight against drug-related crimes, terrorism and other crimes, human source of which is illegal migration".

The document, in accordance with accepted procedures, will be submitted to the head of state to be signed.

The cooperation agreement was signed in Moscow on March 6, 1998 by nine CIS states (except Georgia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan).
